Kira privacy policy
Last updated: 2026-10-30
This policy explains what the Kira Android app, made by runupbiz, does with your information. In short: everything about your bills stays on your phone, Kira has no account and no server for your data, and the free app shows ads from Google AdMob.
In short
- Receipt photos are read on your phone. The photo and the text in it are never uploaded.
- Your splits, the names and amounts in them, your people book, your payment note and your settings are stored on your phone only.
- Kira has no account and no sign-in, and the app's own code sends nothing over the internet.
- The free app shows Google AdMob banner ads. Google collects the information described under Ads; none of your receipt data is part of it.
- Kira Pro is bought through Google Play, which handles the payment.
- Kira runs no analytics and no crash reporting of its own.
- Delete everything yourself in Settings > Clear all my data, or uninstall the app.
What stays on your phone
Kira stores your splits (items, prices, people, charges and who has paid), your people book, your payment note and your settings in the app's private storage on your phone. They are not uploaded, and other apps cannot read them.
Android's cloud backup and device-to-device transfer are switched off for Kira's data, so it is not copied to your Google account. To move to a new phone, use Settings > Back up and restore the file there.
Receipt photos
To scan a bill you take a photo with your phone's camera app or pick one from your gallery. Kira reads the text with a recognition engine built into the app, on the phone itself. The photo is never uploaded and is not saved with your splits.
Ads
The free app shows a banner ad from Google AdMob on the Home and History screens, never while you split a bill and never on a picture you share. To show it, Google's advertising software on your phone connects to Google and collects your device's advertising ID, your approximate location derived from your IP address, information about your device and how you interact with the ads. Google uses this for advertising, measurement and fraud prevention. Kira does not receive this information, and it passes no receipt data, names or amounts to Google.
Kira asks Google for non-personalised ads only: ads are not chosen from a profile of your interests. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google's consent form appears before any ad is requested, and your answer is stored on your phone. If you do not agree, the app works the same and Google may show limited ads or none.
You can change your answer later in Settings > Privacy and data > Ad privacy choices (shown where Google's consent applies). You can reset your advertising ID or turn off personalised ads for all apps in your phone's own settings.
Google explains how it uses information from apps that show its ads:
How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services
Kira Pro
Kira Pro is a one-time purchase made through Google Play. Google Play handles the payment and your payment details under Google's own terms; Kira never sees them. The app asks Google Play only whether your Google account owns Kira Pro and keeps the answer on the phone. With Kira Pro the app requests no ads.
Pictures, backups and spreadsheets you share
Kira shares something only when you tap to do it: a split as a picture or as text, a backup file, or a spreadsheet (CSV). These contain the names and amounts of your splits; a backup also holds your people book, your payment note and your settings. When you paid the bill, what you share can also carry your payment note.
Kira hands each one to your phone's share sheet or saves it to your Downloads folder, and it goes only where you send it. Kira does not upload it. Keep backups somewhere private. If you choose to send a scan report from the app, you pick the app and the person; the file has no photo and no names.
Internet use
Kira's own screens make no network requests and work without an internet connection. The only internet traffic comes from Google's advertising software in the free app and from Google Play when you buy or restore Kira Pro. Kira has no server that receives anything from the app.
Delete your data
Settings > Clear all my data deletes every saved split, your people book, your settings and payment note, and any receipt photos and shared files Kira left on this phone. Uninstalling the app removes everything Kira stored.
Files you saved or sent somewhere else, such as a backup in Downloads or a picture in a chat, stay where you put them; delete them there. Kira keeps no copy of your data anywhere else, so there is nothing more to delete and nothing to ask for.
Google manages its own advertising data: you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.
Children
Kira is a tool for adults splitting bills. It is not directed at children.
